A trumpet major by training, Malaysian-born Wai Lun self-taught his way to a full scholarship at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.
As he began his formal music education in Singapore, Wai Lun also came in contact with and found his passion for choral music. He has been a member of SYC Ensemble Singers since 2005 and Assistant Conductor since 2008 under the guidance of Jennifer Tham (Singapore).
Throughout his time with the choir, Wai Lun has remained committed to developing his skills both as singer and conductor. He studied conducting and music pedagogical skills during masterclasses and seminars under the likes of Dr Laszlo Nemes (Hungary), Volker Hempfling (Germany) and Bo Johansson (Sweden). In addition, Wai Lun also had the opportunity to work with and prepare the choir for guest conductors like Vytautas Miskinis (Lithuania) and Ko Matsushita (Japan).
In February 2011, he was a member selected to represent Singapore at the inaugural Asia Pacific Youth Choir held in Macau under the direction of Saeko Hasegawa (Japan) and Jonathan Velasco (Philippines).
Believing that music is a gift he should share with all, Wai Lun dedicates most of his time to providing quality music education and choral experience to our musicians of tomorrow. Besides assisting at the SYC and his residency at the IFC, Wai Lun is also the Choir Instructor of Dunearn Secondary School Choir, Fuhua Secondary School Choir and Rivervale Primary School Choir.
