Albert Tay
Albert has served as the Artistic Director and Conductor of the International Festival Chorus Singapore since January 2009. He is also Assistant Conductor for the SYC Ensemble Singers (formerly the Singapore Youth Choir). Believing the future of the Arts lies with the children of today, Albert is happy to be working actively in Singapore as a conductor and music educator for various school choirs. Through music games, he cultivates in young choristers disciplined musicianship, musical in(ter)dependence and an appreciation of the Arts for Arts’ sake. Choirs in his care have blossomed and received excellent reviews, top prizes and gold awards in international and local choral festivals and competitions.
Albert was selected by the International Federation for Choral Music in 2005 to be an active participant representing the Asia South Pacific region in the 7th World Symposium on Choral Music Conductors’ Masterclass (Japan) as well as for the recent 2009 9th Taiwan International Choral Festival Conductors’ Masterclass, tutored by Maestro Gábor Hollerung (Hungary). Albert has also worked with established conductor-pedagogues such as Dr László Nemes (Hungary), Kari Turunen (Finland), Alberto Grau (Venezuela) and Gary Graden (Sweden) and is currently studying composition with Dr Kelly Tang.
At the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Albert majored in voice and studied choral conducting with Jennifer Tham and orchestral conducting with Dr Robert Casteels, earning a Diploma in Music with Distinctions and BA (Hons) from the University of Wales (UK). He served as a volunteer Teaching Assistant (2006-2007) for the “NAFA Chamber Choir” and “Choral Training & Direction” modules at his alma mater where he aided in curriculum planning, lectures and conducted performances.
Albert was a recipient of the National Arts Council (Singapore) Georgette Chen Scholarship, the National Arts Council (Singapore) Arts Bursary, as well as the NAFA Scholarship for his diploma and degree studies. |
